Postscript: How cessationists make their case
I finalized my paper by the due date as my final project for my fourth and final year of Warrior Training (https://rgfwarrior.com/). It took the better part of a year to research, compile, narrow, and write the summary. I could have continued for another year accumulating more interesting connections and history of church doctrine issues. Having the deadline helped me come to a conclusion, but it did necessitate removing some interesting side topics. I saved them all, and some may make an appearance in the Wilderness Journal. However, before I made my public presentation of the material, I came across one more source that I wanted to include. It was this book, written by and endorsed by self-proclaimed cessationist evangelical leaders. I’ve had to remind myself that probably MOST evangelicals in America sit in churches who either overtly or functionally practice this doctrine. The endorsements of this book gave me confidence that I could get a good summary of the issues and their background, so I will have given their arguments a fair reading. Here are a few of the points and my response to them. I also have several other sources for the curious reader.
