“Look, I am about to do something new;
even now it is coming. Do you not see it?
Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness,
rivers in the desert.”
Isaiah 43:19
Wilderness Travelers
The Hebrew Bible tells the story of God’s chosen people. His name is Yahweh, and He calls his people Israel. A significant part of the narrative is told in the book of Exodus, about their departure from Egypt, where they had suffered in slavery. After reading through the narrative over the last few years, I began to discern lessons in their experiences that helped me make sense of what I was seeing in the world around me, and what I was experiencing in my own life. Their release from captivity and subsequent wilderness season has proven to be a valuable metaphor and a prophetic lesson to those who find themselves starting to feel a call to leave a place of some sort of bondage, whether it be spiritual or literal, and adapting to life in a wide open space where God meets us with His supernatural itinerary for freedom and destiny.
